2. Analysis of Supply of Training


2.6. Managerial Training

Managerial training has been a very hot topic in China. When asked what kind of courses they offer for senior management. 67% of the responding providers stated different kinds of managerial courses. A significant number also offer Leadership Training (57%), while 21% offer MBA and/or EMBA programs, and 360-degree assessments for senior management.

As far as training for middle management is concerned, providers would also offer different kinds of management courses (67%). Leadership courses are offered by 51%. The third popular training program for middle managerial levels is Technical Training and Development. 360 degree Assessments scored 13%, while 14% offer Language courses to middle managers.

Skills and competencies trained for middle managers

As for training for middle managers, 63% of the providers focus on Communication / Relationship-building skills, followed by Leadership/Decision Making Skills Training (60%) and Teamwork Skills (58%). These are followed by training for Negotiation Skills (47%) and People Development Skills (46%). For detailed results please refer to Figure 42 below.

To train middle managers, most providers would conduct Live Instructor-led Classes (86%). The second most popular training method for middle managers was Conference/Workshop Sessions, but was only selected by 44% of the respondents. Action Learning would be provided by 33%. Virtual On-line or Remote Classrooms are offered by 7% of the surveyed providers to middle management personnel. Other methods did not receive much attention.
